The challenge

Care could not pause for a single shift.

A regional medical center needed a new patient tower and the renovation of existing departments, with care continuing around the clock. Infection-control measures, utility shutdowns and patient moves all had to be sequenced precisely and agreed with clinical leaders in advance.

Hospital leadership wanted an independent advocate who understood construction and respected clinical reality in equal measure.

Representative engagement. Client identity withheld; specifics anonymized and illustrative.

Our approach

How we turned it around

We acted as the owner's independent eyes on the program, and planned the work around the people inside the building.

PHASE 01PHASE 02PHASE 03PHASE 04
PHASE 01Phase

Phasing plans were developed with clinical leaders so each stage protected bed capacity, access and care pathways.

PHASE 02Protect

Infection-control measures, utility shutdowns and patient moves were scheduled as critical-path activities with their own logic and approvals.

PHASE 03Govern

Owner reporting, change control and contractor oversight gave the board a clear, independent view of time, cost and risk.

PHASE 04Activate

Equipment, staffing, training and move-in readiness were integrated with commissioning so spaces opened ready for patients.

What changed

The difference we made

Construction and care coexisted, and new spaces opened operational rather than merely complete.

Result 01Care protected

Clinical operations continued through every phase, with shutdowns planned and agreed in advance.

Result 02Ready on day one

Activation planning meant departments opened equipped, staffed and trained.

Result 03Independent assurance

The board received candid reporting at every stage, including when the news was unwelcome.

They never forgot that this was a hospital first and a construction site second.
